Historicism in the Socio-Economic Views of M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky (on the 160th anniversary of his birth)

 

Abstract

Introduction. The purpose of the study is to analyze and evaluate the development of the principle of historicism and the historical context of the socio-economic ideas of the outstanding Russian scientist and economist M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky, one of the developers of the theories of socialism, economic crises, and the historical cyclicality of socio-economic development.

Materials and Methods. The study used the methods of expert-analytical, program-target, structural-functional, systemic, comparative, morphological and comparative analysis and evaluation of the socio-economic ideas of M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky. The subject of the analysis is the principle of historicism and the use of a historical approach to the analysis of economic reality. The object of the study is the scientific heritage of M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky.

Results. Using the example of the socio-economic views of M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky, the importance of the principle of historicism and the historical approach in posing and developing topical issues of socio-economic reality and formulating new conceptual provisions of the humanities is shown. The potential of historicism in the field of formation and use of historical experience of science and economic practice, systematization of economic history and history of economic thought, development of morphology of different types of socio-political and socio-economic structure of society, identification and analysis of the nature of economic cyclicality and economic crises is revealed. Based on M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky’s own works, as well as a wide range of publications, the scientist’s contribution to the development of domestic science and economic education is revealed.

Discussion and Conclusion. Based on existing theoretical and methodological approaches, as well as ongoing discussions in modern Russian humanitarian science, the polymorphism of assessments of the creative (scientific) heritage of M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky and the need for its rethinking are revealed, taking into account the formation of a new reality in modern conditions and the associated transformation of value systems, social relations and the content and nature of modern economic activity. Recommendations are formulated in the field of using the scientific heritage of M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky for the development of innovative training courses in the system of Russian higher education.
