MARKET ECONOMY AND TOTALITARISM: TO THE HISTORY OF THE QUESTION
The article substantiates the urgency of the historical and economic study of modern institutional transformations in the sphere of economic practice. The thesis on the formation of a new model of social relations in the conditions of the modern global economy of the market type – «economic totalitarianism» – was put forward and justified. This model is characterized as peripheral capitalism with the decisive participation of the bureaucracy in the management of socio-economic phenomena and processes. Factors influencing the formation of this model are presented and analyzed, and the consequences of its formation for countries with a weakly developed national economy are shown.
On the basis of the structurally-functional, program-objective and historical-retrospective approaches, the thesis on the possibility of forming and developing various modalities of «economic totalitarianism» («consumer society», «new industrial society», «post-industrial society», etc.) in conditions of formally democratic and liberal political systems.
Particular attention is paid to the impact of endogenous and exogenous (extractive and inclusive) factors on the processes of institutional transformation in the modern economy: the export of «market values», the devaluation of traditional values, and the formation «peripheral» nature of the economy.
The national peculiarities inherent in economic totalitarianism, its nature and main development tendencies are revealed. The question is raised about the need to revise the meaning and significance of the earlier scientific concepts – «pure forms» – in describing modern political and socio-economic processes.
