Abstract
Introduction. Industrial heritage is not only the history of companies, inventions and industrial facilities, but also the history of developments operating in the economy. Studying the theoretical and practical aspects of the legacy of such specialists as K. Ya. Zagorsky, V. N. Sokolov,
V. A. Shevalin, I. A. Oding, who made a significant contribution to the development of a number of sectors of the country’s economy, allows us to understand the processes of modernization of Russia in the early twentieth century. In this case, the authors raise the question of the realization of the heritage of specialists in one way or another related to the history of St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Polytechnic Institute (SPbPI, LPI) during the period of industrial modernization.
Materials and Methods. The methodological basis was made up of the works and developments of Soviet specialists, general scientific methods were used, including analysis of the Soviet tariff system, planned transport statistics, electric traction of rolling stock and achievements of Soviet metallurgists and polytechnics.
Results. These are areas that make it possible to trace the transformation of domestic technologies in the field of transport, in particular, with the transition to the Soviet model of planned economy and the contribution of metallurgical scientists to the defense and blockade of Leningrad. Paying attention to the realization of the potential of scientists in the context of state regulation of the economy, the article, based on archival and published sources, contains unknown biographical information about specialists of the Polytechnic Institute – K.Ya. Zagorsky, V. N. Sokolov,
V. A. Shevalin, I. A. Oding. On the one hand, their achievements and existing practices of the period of industrialization have been studied.
Discussion and Conclusion. These examples of concrete implementation of developments demonstrate the impact of industrial heritage on the economy and society of the first half of the twentieth century. They confirm innovations in the field of national production and are the pride of Soviet science. In general, the analysis of the activities of contemporaries, the creators of economic modernization, is an important aspect in the study of history, economics, science and technology.
