Poultry Products in the Urals in 1946–1965: What do the Archives Say?
Abstract
Introduction. The article examines the data revealed in the archives on the production of poultry products in all categories of farms in seven regions of the Urals in the post-war twentieth century. The chosen topic is quite relevant, since poultry farming has always been an important branch of animal husbandry, and its products have been and are in great demand both among the population and some industries. The scientific novelty of the work is undeniable, since, firstly, the problem raised in the article has not been practically investigated today, and secondly, a significant part of the archival materials published by us is being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.
Materials and Methods. The main source base of the research was the materials stored in the Russian State Archive of Economics (RGAE). The work is based on the use of a set of methods: general scientific and special scientific (historical-genetic, historical-comparative, historical-systemic).
Results. The analysis of the yield of poultry meat, as well as the dynamics of egg production in the studied twenty years in all regions of the Urals and the factors influencing them was carried out. Attention is focused on the fact that the rapid increase in all statistical indicators of the Ural poultry industry began to be observed already in the 1950s. It is emphasized that today the problem of the development of poultry farming in the Urals in the studied period is practically unexplored.
Discussion and Conclusion. The authors note that in order to recreate a complete picture of the development of the poultry sector of agriculture in the Urals, a long period of research is required, both in regional and federal archives. To date, the dynamics of egg production provides the most objective picture of the development of the Ural poultry industry in the post-war twentieth century under study. The production of this product had a difficult dynamic, the most positive in the 1950s and less so in the early 1960s, which to a certain extent reflected the pace of socio-economic development of the country in these years.
