Abstract

This book by Professor V. V. Morozan is a landmark study in the history of the Russian capital’s nobility from the second half of the 18th to the early 20th centuries. It provides a fairly comprehensive understanding of the socio-political and economic life of the

St. Petersburg Province’s nobility, which largely determined the fate and direction of the country’s political development over such a long period of its history. Based on a colossal corpus of archival sources, the monograph is highly researched and of great socio-political and historical interest.
